Common Skin Care Mistakes You Might Be Making

Our skin is one of the most visible organs in our body. Hence, it is that important for you to take proper care of it, with emphasis on the proper.

With the rise of different routines, products, and tips here and there, you might be wondering if you are taking care of your skin the right way.

Here are 5 common mistakes that you might have done or have been doing that you need to stop right now. Again, RIGHT NOW.

1. Going to bed with your makeup still on.

A lot of us are guilty, aren’t we? Let’s admit it, we all have our moments when we party a little too much and just stumble to our bed or come home from stressful overtime work and head straight to bed without cleansing our face.

How to Correct This: Keep a pack of makeup remover wipes by your bedside in case you just can’t force yourself to go and cleanse in the bathroom. However, keep in mind that this is just a quick fix. Washing your face every night with a cleanser is still the best solution.

2. Using a body wash on your face.

Speaking of washing your face, it’s not enough that you just wash it. You need to make sure that you are using the proper product to cleanse it. Though it may sound more cost-effective, washing your face with body wash is a big no-no. Body wash may work great for your arms, legs, and other body parts but not on your sensitive facial skin. It contains ingredients that can dry your face and may cause breakouts.

How to Fix This: Invest in a facial cleanser that’s meant for your skin type. There are tons of affordable choices—check out our list here!

3. Disregarding sunscreen.

Sunscreen isn’t just for summer and beach trips, girl! Your face (and neck!) needs it daily. Also, you need to wear one even if the sun is out and it’s a cloudy day, not just when the sun rays are hitting you. Prolonged exposure to the sun may cause dark spots and wrinkles. You may also increase the risk of getting skin cancer.

How to Fix This: Add sunscreen as the final step of your morning skincare routine. Make sure to put on one, though, at least 20-30 minutes before going out to make sure that your skin already absorbed it. Keep one in your bag so you can re-apply it every two hours to maximize its effect.

4. Forgetting to double cleanse.

Cleansing again? Yes, again and again. Why? Because you can never do enough cleansing. The key to a more radiant complexion is to cleanse and cleanse. Using your cleanser alone isn’t enough to get rid of all the grime on your face after a long day, especially if you wear makeup daily. Chances are, there is still some product and sebum buildup left on your skin which can turn into nasty breakouts.

How to Fix This: Invest in a good cleansing oil or balm and make it the first step of your nighttime skincare routine. The formula will help to *completely* melt off your makeup. Then, get rid of water-based dirt with a facial wash.

5. Neglecting your neck.

This is one of the most common mistakes that a lot of us are making. We sometimes forget that the neck should be part of our skincare routine. It is one of the first parts of the body to show telltale signs of aging, so you shouldn’t neglect it while doing your daily skincare routine!

How to Fix This: When toning, applying serums, and moisturizing, don’t forget to extend it down to your neck—this habit will prevent wrinkles and sagging in the long run.
