Lash Lift vs. Lash Extensions: What Exactly Is The Difference?

“What makes lash lift and lash extensions different from each other?” This is a question that we always get from our clients. Though both can transform your eye and lashes gorgeously, these two have distinct differences and in this article, you will learn about them.

What is a Lash Lift?

A lash lift is a great way to make your straight natural lashes have a curl, which would give the illusion of length to your lashes.  It’s a great way to enhance the beauty of your natural lashes.  However, a lash lift can’t give you the length and volume lash extensions can.

How long it lasts: It depends on how fast your lashes fall out and regrow, but typically it lasts for around 6-12 weeks.

Pros:

  • You can still use mascara or false eyelashes
  • Looks more natural
  • Longer time between touch ups
  • Very comfortable since it’s using your own lashes

Cons:

  • A lash lift might look too subtle for those who likes dramatic and full blown lashes
  • Not everyone can get this done. This can’t be done to shorter lashes

What are Lash Extensions?

Eyelash extensions are being done by applying individual fake lashes onto your real lashes using medical-grade adhesive, creating a look similar to normal stick-on false lashes.

Eyelash extensions can give you the length and volume you don’t have with your natural lashes, but they require maintenance, which could include a re-lash every 2 to 3 weeks depending on how well you take care of them.

How long it lasts: Lash extensions last about 4 to 6 weeks depending on the lift cycle of your own natural lashes and other factors.  Though the average cycle of a single lash is about 90 days, factors such as your eyelash characteristics, lifestyle, and general care of your lashes will affect how long your lashes last.  Getting a re-lash every 2 to 3 weeks is recommended to keep the perfect look.

Pros:

  • You get a dramatic effect from the fake lashes.
  • There are many different options to choose from, from lengths, thickness, and application style. You’re able to choose one that suits your eye shape best.

Cons:

  • In some cases, lash extensions may cause slight discomfort, due to its weight or how longer extension lengths may slightly obscure your vision.
  • It may be more difficult to apply and remove eye makeup with extensions on.
  • They’re quite high maintenance. Once some of your lashes fall out, it may create a noticeably patchy look.
